Milestones: Herbert Ross “Rocky” Atwood

Died. Herbert Ross “Rocky” Atwood. Known to his many friends as “Rocky,” Atwood passed away on December 3, 2010, in Houston at age 54. He was born in Baytown, Texas, to Herbert (deceased) and Betty Atwood on May 3, 1956. Employed in the banking industry, Atwood was most recently employed by Amegy Bank as senior vice president and chief technology officer. Recognized as an accomplished pianist, organist, and percussionist, Atwood performed at Resurrection MCC, Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, and Metropolitan Baptist Church, as well as with Houston Concert Band and various other groups. He was also active in a number of charitable organizations supporting Houston’s LGBT community, including Cloverdale Foundation, Executive Professional Association of Houston, PWA Holiday Charities, Empire of the Royal Sovereign and Imperial Court of the Single Star, and the Texas Gay Rodeo Association. A celebration of his life was held December 11 at Resurrection MCC Church. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to PWA Holiday Charities (P.O. Box 66849, Houston, TX 77266), Resurrection MCC Food Pantry (2025 W. 11th Street, Houston, TX 77008), or PFLAG HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation (P.O. Box 667010, Houston, TX 77266).
