Houston Area Community Services Designated as Federally Qualified Healthcare Center

HACS board president Barbara Garcia (l–r), board vice president Reginald Williams, chief executive officer Joe C. Fuentes Jr., chief financial officer Mary Ann Wilkins (a board member and staff member to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee), and HACS board member Janice Weaver at the HACS official grand opening and ribbon cutting in July.

In July, Houston Area Community Services (HACS) moved into its new facility as a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center in the Heights, providing HIV-related care as well as general health services to the LGBT community including a full range of primary care, lab work, and behavioral health services. The healthcare center also provides a pediatric program that began September 1.

“Of course, HACS continues to provide HIV-related primary care to the community, HACS chief executive officer, Joe Fuentes, said. “It’s important that the community knows that while we accept most private insurances, Medicare/Medicaid, and self pay, HACS will provide services to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay.”

In 2007, HACS fully expanded its healthcare and social services to all individuals and families needing affordable healthcare services. HACS’ Class A community/retail pharmacy opens to the entire community, beginning Oct. 1. 2150 W. 18th St. • hacstxs.org. Nancy Ford
