Ray Allan West passed away March 20 due to complications of a chronic illness. Born August 18, 1959, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, he is survived by his partner, Larry Cunniffe; his mother, Marie West; his brother Roger and family; longtime friend David Schwartz; and many family members and friends. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was preceded in death by his father, Garvin West. A founding member of the Houston Chapter of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, West also worked with the People With AIDS Coalition of Houston, Miss Camp America Houston, AIDS/LifeCycle rides, and the Macon County AIDS Task Force. An accountant and Realtor, West also worked with the Ryan White Planning Council, Shanti, and the Public Health Foundation Enterprises in San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Francisco AIDS Emergency Fund, Project Inform, or Legacy Community Health Services.
