Montrose Named One of America’s ‘Best Neighborhoods’

On October 7, 2009, American Planning Association recognized the Montrose neighborhood as one of its 10 Great Neighborhoods. Ranking among 30 US neighborhoods cited for exemplary character, quality, and planning, Montrose represents “the gold standard in terms of having a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for tomorrow,” according to APA’s website.

Houston city council members Wanda Adams and Sue Lovell accepted the honor on behalf of the city of Houston. “We have one of the best communities and one of the most diverse communities,” said Lovell. “Montrose is a great example of a neighborhood where people of different backgrounds can come together and build a community. Montrose is an example of what all of Houston can be.” – by Nancy Ford
