New Hampshire Legislature Approves Marriage Equality

On May 6, New Hampshire’s state legislature passed a bill extending the freedom to marry to same-sex couples.

“We salute the courage and commitment of the New Hampshire legislature for doing the right thing by passing this legislation,” said Rea Carey, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force executive director. “The legislature’s action also affirms the national momentum building for marriage equality. It is clear that as people have discussed and considered this issue, they are increasingly recognizing that the protections provided through civil marriage are a vital part of full equality.”

The measure now advances to New Hampshire governor John Lynch for signing. – by Nancy Ford
