Texas Christian University Cancels Plans For GLBT Housing

Shortly after announcing it would begin offering GLBT student housing on its campus, Texas Christian University officials scrapped those plans.

According to 365gay.com, university administrators reversed the decision to create new themed housing programs for GLBT students beginning in fall 2009 following outcry from financial supporters of the university who oppose same-sex equality.

Victor J. Boschini Jr., TCU chancellor, said in a statement that “TCU will not launch any new living learning communities at this time. Instead we will assess whether the concept of housing residential students based on themes supports the academic mission of the institution, as well as our objective to provide a total university experience.”

In addition to canceling the fall launch of GLBT housing, the decision also cancels special housing for students based on patriotism, Christianity, and marine life. – by Nancy Ford
