A special election is being held May 9 to fill the Houston City Council seat vacated by former councilman Adrian Garcia who was elected to Harris County sheriff in the November 2008 election.
Early voting for Houston City Council, District H, takes place through May 5 at Harris County Administration Building (1001 Preston, 1st floor), Moody Park Recreation Center (3725 Fulton St.), and Ripley Houston Neighborhood Center (4410 Navigation Blvd.).
The Houston GLBT Political Caucus endorsed openly gay candidate, Maverick Welsh, for the District H council seat, as has the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. Welsh’s opponents in the race are Edward “Ed” Gonzalez, Lupe Garcia, Hugo Mojica, Larry Williams, James Partsch-Galvan, Yolanda Navarro Flores, and Rick Rodriguez. – by Nancy Ford
