As the year begins, we are in for quite an auspicious time. On January 25, Pluto, planet of ultimate change, transformation, death, and rebirth (and the cosmic enema) moves into the sign of Capricorn, where it will remain until 2024. Outer, slow-moving planets like Pluto affect us individually but have a greater impact on nations and society as a whole.
Pluto moved from Scorpio into Sagittarius in November 1995. Historically, the last time Pluto was in Capricorn was from 1762 through 1778, spanning the time of the American Revolution, when early America began to get fed up with King George. On the more general level, Pluto in Capricorn means you should be looking for some really enormous shifts in government, as well as events concerning roads, highways, bridge structures, and dams.
On a personal level, this means cleaning out the old aspects of ourselves that are no longer effective or that are toxic to our health. The greatest personal impact is on those of you with planets in the signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. If you don’t already know the signs of your planets, now is a great time to get your astrological chart done and find out.
Our old friend Mercury, planet that rules automobiles, computers, documents, and mental activity, will go retrograde three times in 2008, as it normally does each year. When Mercury is retrograde, it is a time to look back and consider what we missed so that we can make corrections. It is never a time to start a new project, sign a document, buy a car, or enter into any contractual agreement. This year Mercury is retrograde January 24 through February 22, May 22 through June 22, and finally, September 19 through October 19.
The Eclipse cycle, which repeats about every 18.6 years, features eclipses in the signs of Leo, Aquarius, and Virgo. These will occur February 6 and 20th, and August 1 and 16th. These represent times of intense clarity about topics in our lives. Those most affected are those who have birthdays close to eclipse dates or with planets close to the eclipse points. It is usually a time of decision-making that starts us on a personal cycle that can last as long as 18 years.
As the year opens, Mars, planet of action and reaction, finishes his retrograde cycle on February 5. That means that things are slow as the year begins until after February 23. So despite our best intentions, we won’t be acting on our New Year’s resolutions until late February.
Overall, the planets are in positions that are not as harsh as they have been in the past two years. We should sense some easing up of feelings of being stuck and unable to make changes in our lives and the world around us. We are ready to clean out our government as people want to move back to a time when we had stateswomen and men who were real leaders who led by example.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)
Career is a big topic for you this year as two planets enter your career sector. One is Jupiter, which is there for a year, influencing career matters for all Rams, Nannies, and Kids. With Jupiter, you can expect some real opportunities for promotions, advancements, and raises. It can mean that you don’t have much time in your life for anything but this, because there are so many options that you don’t know which one to take—so you take them all. Watch that you don’t overload yourself with a too-busy schedule.
With Pluto in this area as well, particularly those of you born in the first few days of the sign, you can expect major changes in your career—from mergers with other companies to considering starting your own business. For some of you this is a time to leave the business you may have been with for many years and consider retirement. And if you are not happy with your current condition, your tolerance is at an all-time low. It is a good time to update résumés and consider your options.
This year, you can get a handle on your health. If you want, this is an excellent time for diets or total health-regime changes. Make sure you visit your healthcare professional and develop a plan that is good for you.
At work, you are ready to get more organized and generally make the workplace more efficient. You are redefining what your responsibility is and what it is not. This is also true with the family, as you expect everyone to share in the responsibility at home. You still may have to lay out the guidelines so everyone knows what to do. Don’t expect them to do it on their own.
Your freedom needs are showing up, and you search for those special getaways that embrace a more peaceful and pastoral setting. You are feeling that your psychic health really needs some nurturing this year, and you are not tolerating as much drama in your life as you have in the past. This has a dramatic influence on siblings and in-laws. You are also drawn to more spiritual interests, particularly those that follow a non-traditional path. This also shows up as interest in improving your health conditions with non-conventional approaches.
Friends and associates are in a very different place in your life than they have ever been. You are letting go of most of your past associates; you no longer seem to have so much in common. For many of you, it has been hard to let go. You knew them in the past, and you can’t comprehend why they aren’t on the same path with you. You may even find that you are disillusioned with them and their attitudes. But you are not quickly replacing them. You are not sure who you want close to you, including romantic partners. The main thing is that you are exploring and are not sure what you want. Some acceptances of differences are good and can help to expand your own connection to your community. TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
Opportunities abound for you this year if you are interested in travel, education, writing, or marketing. You are hungry to learn something new, and you have plenty of prospects that present themselves to you. If you are interested in the educational process, you could also be the person who is doing the teaching. You are feeling more upbeat than you have in the last couple of years. With that, you can make some real inroads in marketing yourself or your company’s products. Your sales abilities flourish even if you are not in that field.
Tradition means more to you this year, as you seek to re-establish or reinvent something that you have not paid much attention to over the last several years. You are feeling a strong urge to step outside your neighborhood and connect to the world at large. You can expect to hear from old friends that you have not heard from in a while. Religion or your spiritual beliefs re-enter the picture as you try to get a hold on how the world works. Your communication skills increase, and you find you are able to say what you mean without stepping on toes.
As well, you are more creatively motivated this year. You want to do something with that creativity to put it into a concrete form that others can see. Your efforts are not just for you but to make contact with others and share your love and goodwill with them. Most projects that you start have a positive outcome, especially if you plan them well and are aware of where you want to invest your time. If you have children, you can expect them to take on a more mature attitude during this year. If your children are older, they might be getting married or having children of their own.
Friends can be especially beneficial this year. You need their help and perspective to see the bigger picture. And in this context, you are able to merge your friends and business, and everyone comes out a winner. If you are a networker, this can be an especially advantageous time. Consider aligning yourself with some community organization. Not only do you get some good friendships there, but you are able to ensure some financial gains. Some of you are still on your spiritual pilgrimage, especially those of you born May 11 through the 16th. You are exploring the big questions of why you are here and what you are supposed to be doing with your life. For many of you, this particularly applies to your career. You get some help with this, but you may not be able to make a decision that you are totally comfortable with, even if the position is perfect. You are just not able to decide because you are in an exploratory time. You have to follow your feelings and not always what seems to make logical sense.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21)
As the year begins, there is an initial time of reflection, but ultimately you are in a decisive mode where you really make choices about your talents, your resources, the intimacy level in your relationships, and how you can create a greater level of self-trust in your decisions. In your relationships, both romantic and business, you are really beginning to communicate about what your expectations are. You are not as flexible as you often appear in the beginning of your relationships. A deeper level of understanding has to be there or you are not going to be interested. In current relationships, all the cards have to be on the table. You are certainly going to expect your partner to be more responsible and practical.
Hidden agendas could really hurt your relationships this year. If your partner is not open about what is going on with him/her, you dig it out. And you are not happy about what you find. You are much more willing to deal with any problem if your partner brings it to the surface on his/her own. There is some need for sexual reconnection, and if that area is not working well, that comes to the forefront. Some of you should consider partnership counseling to be able to get more clear about what the truth is.
Continuing on this theme, you are also getting more clear about your role in the family and just what level of responsibility you are willing to accept. This is a time of no BS with your family members. You are stepping in to accept yourself as the authority figure in your own life. If your family members are older, this could be a time when they are retiring or that you are seeing the effects of aging in their lives. Their opinions about you no longer affect you as they once did. You are establishing your own roots. Some of you buy property or perhaps remodel the place where you are living. Establishing yourself on safe ground is what you are seeking.
For many of you, especially those born between the 9th and the 15th, you are trying to find some passion and connection with your career. If you are not able to do this, you are facing boredom in your work—and boredom is never a good thing for a Gemini. You need a new project at your current workplace or you look elsewhere. Some of you are considering starting your own business. Physically, this can show up as being very restless or not getting much sleep—essentially your brain not shutting down for rest. You find that work conditions are unbearable by August if you have not made some changes in this area of your life.
Intellectually, you are really in a creative period, and part of what drives you to change jobs or careers is the need to do something that more adequately reflects your inner desires, not just making money and surviving. You have always been a person who reflects on the nature of spirituality, but you are now interested in making your life more whole or complete in the way you make choices. You don’t mind working, but it needs to be work you love and something that makes a difference in this world. That is a lot to ask of a person and any choices that they may make, but you are asking that of yourself this year.

There is a big focus this year on relationships. Your personal magnetism goes way up. People are attracted to you to help you in your career or to connect with you in your business. This also means improvement in existing relationships or drawing to you that special someone you’re looking for. This is one of those periods when it may seem that whatever you undertake seems to go well for you, as though this is the way life should always be. We would all like to believe that, but this is just a particularly good time for you, and you should take advantage of whatever opportunities come your way. Some of you are traveling more, writing more, or just having more fun than you have had in a while. People that you meet this year help to further your life along in so many different areas. The only word of caution here is that you don’t overload your schedule and exhaust yourself by having too much fun.
For those of you born June 21 through the 23rd, you find that your relationships are especially challenging. If you have planets in this area, you could be affected by this as well. You are doing some major cleanup in your relationships. If they are not strong enough to tolerate the cosmic enema operating in your relationship sector, they could end. You are looking for truth and real emotional connections with your partner. Some of this is affected by the fact that there are others who are swimming around and picking up on your signals of dissatisfaction with your current relationship. Generally, you are just in the mood to clean up your life from top to bottom. This feels very unstable, as it is not easy for Cancer to part with their “stuff.” Some of this “stuff” represents your emotional security, but the more you embrace this, the easier it is for you.
The way you communicate with others is going to be especially important this year. You are really examining the methods that you use to get your ideas across. Some of you are writing more than you have in many years. And in this respect, you are not really interested in people just gabbing on and on about something when they don’t have a point to make. You are more abrupt and direct than people are used to you being. Life won’t be as fun as it usually seems to you. In fact, it may seem boring. This is the signal for you to change your routines and get some freshness back into your day-to-day living. If you have siblings, this year is a time for coming together to move past your childhoods and begin building your sibling relationships as adults. Anything less just won’t work.
You are much more attracted to aspects of life that are beyond the day-to-day. Some of you are drawn to spiritual exercises that combine both body and spirit. You seek a deeper connection and find that casual encounters are not as appealing as they have been in the past. In modern terms, you are really looking for that partner who reflects the idealized view that you have carried with you your entire life.
