The Houston store — opening in the former Surprises gift store location — is the first BoConcept store in Texas. BoConcept plans to open additional stores in Sugar Land and The Woodlands within the next few months.

Lesbian Rainbow Pages, has been elected to the first board of directors of Unid@s, the new national Latina/o GLBT human rights organization (www.unidoslgbt.org). Martinez is the president and co-founder of GALLO (Gay and Lesbian Latin Organization) and serves on the Greater Houston Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and Houston Black Tie Dinner boards of directors (above, Martinez is pictured at the November 2006 Houston Black Tie Dinner with the event headliner, actor Leslie Jordan).

“I’m honored to have been selected to represent the state of Texas, which holds one of the largest GLBT Latino populations in the country,” Martinez says. “Our goal is to be able to advocate and be a voice for the community in regards to the political arena, raising Unid@s to be an advocate organization of national scope.”

NEW TRADITION In early 2007, Tradition Bank — The Plaza opened its historic doors for business. Located at 5020 Montrose Blvd. on the site of the former Plaza Hotel, it is the seventh banking center for the locally owned and operated financial institution. The eight-story building (see rendering), designed by renowned Houston architect Joseph Finger, opened as the Plaza in 1926 but had been vacant for a number of years.
