by Tim Brookover POET PROFILE
Name: Todd (Toddicus) Alan Helvey Gresley
Age: Older than I look
Birthplace: Anderson, Indiana
Occupation: Art director at Retro Gallery
Current Endeavor: Author of the just-published
poetry collection, Indiana the Island (Atahualpa
Press).
Next ambition: To release new material and work
on new music.
Inspirations: Siouxsie and The Banshees, Kate
Bush, Morrissey, Anne Sexton
I am most proud of: Telling people how I feel
no matter what—and my Siouxsie collection,
of course.
What’s next? More books … poetry readings
… and dating perhaps??
On September 24, Gresley will read from Indiana
the Island, his first published work, at Helios
at 8 p.m. Gresley’s book is available for
sale through his website, www.toddicus.com as
well as www.amazon.com and select local bookstores
(“No corporate bookstores! Rahhrr!”
he wrote in a recent e-mail). Visitors to the
site can also order artwork from the book by local
illustrator Brandon Hancock, whose spare, offbeat
drawings recall Edward Gorey.
Gresley also wrote us about his site: “I
was in a rock band for 10 years, and a popular
thing to do is to release an EP of work or a single
with extra tracks—or B sides. On the website,
there will be a keyword in which you can type
in on the website and read some of the poems that
never made it to the book and poems that correlate
with “the single” poems as well—“B
Side Poems,” if you will. A first in the
poetry world.”
