by Blase DiStefano

The above photo shows only five of the reasons Cher—The Farewell Tour is nominated for outstanding costumes and outstanding hairstyling. Cher’s NBC special is also nominated for lighting direction, technical direction, music direction, and outstanding music special.

Six Feet Under leads with 16 Emmy nominations, including outstanding casting for a drama series. The cast includes: Frances Conroy, Peter Krause, Michael C. Hall, Lauren Ambrose, Rachel Griffiths, Mathew St. Patrick, Freddy Rodriguez, and Lili Taylor.

Will & Grace is a heavy contender with 12 nominations, including outstanding comedy series. Each of the Fab Four (Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally) is nominated in the acting categories.

The Simpsons episode “Three Gays of the Condo,” in which Homer rooms with two gay guys, is nominated for outstanding animated program for less than one hour.

Also of interest to the queer eye: Showtime’s Soldier’s Girl received two nominations (the two stars, Troy Garity and Lee Pace, were not nominated!). HBO’s Sex and the City and Normal garnered 13 and six nominations, respectively. And The Daily Show with Jon Stewart received three nominations.

The 55th Annual Emmy Awards airs at 7 p.m., Sunday, September 21 on Fox.
