LET’S RODEO

The Texas Gay Rodeo Association marks 20 years of bucking and roping at the September 5–7 Capital City Rodeo in Austin. Gene Mikulenka (l) and Denis Westbrook will leave their Montgomery County spreads and travel to the event for the pole-bending competition. Rodeo and film buffs remember Mikulenka from American Cowboy, the 1998 documentary portrait of him and International Gay Rodeo Association culture. Another Houstonian, Kevin Tobin, will compete in Austin, in the chute dogging and steer-decorating events.
