Sean Carter has been hired as the new executive director of the Body Positive Wellness Center, leaving his job as development director at the Montrose Counseling Center. He is replacing founder Nelson Vergel, who has become increasingly in demand since the publication of his book (co-authored with Michael Mooney) Built to Survive: A Comprehensive Guide to the Medical Use of Anabolic Steroids, Nutrition, and Exercise for HIV-Positive Men and Women. The book has sold more than 3,400 copies since its publication in March, all without publicity, and has raised $36,000 for Body Positive.

Club Rainbow, one of Houston’s finest upscale clubs for lesbians, is celebrating its one-year anniversary in August, with special events scheduled for Aug. 11-13. Stop in at Club Rainbow and wish Alexis and Lynn happy anniversary. Club Rainbow is located at 1417-B Westheimer.

Therapist Tony Carroll, LMSW-ACP, officially launched his new website and new business venture, HoustonTherapist.com, during Pride month and relocated his offices to 1006 Missouri Street (near Baba Yega). Although on-line therapy is illegal, HoustonTherapist.com offers web surfers the opportunity to learn more about therapy in an interactive/virtual/initial visit. In addition, you may view schedules of relationship seminars, request appointments, and find out more about Tony’s practice. Robert Tomlin of Vilven Design Group states: “This is a stimulating and visually appealing website that is easy to navigate. I believe that therapists need to communicate a great deal of information, and HoustonTherapist.com contains meaningful ideas and concepts that will awaken the curiosity of visitors to the site. A year and a half ago, OutSmart reported that the American Red Cross had appointed Michael Ruggerio to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention post of Red Cross Statewide HIV/AIDS Education Coordinator for Texas. Working under financial support from the CDC, the statewide network is responsible for assuring that Red Cross HIV/AIDS Education programs are available to all communities in Texas. The Texas Network has been so successful under the direction of Ruggerio that it has been named the first regional HIV/AIDS network. In July, Ruggerio expanded his responsibilities to include Arkansas. Ruggerio says that being the first network to operate under a regional concept is an honor and a challenge he looks forward to undertaking. He also encourages everyone to access the training available at their Red Cross chapter. Wade Wilson has been named executive director of the Art League of Houston. Wilson replaces Linda Haag Carter, who served as executive director for eight years. A native of Fort Worth, Wilson is returning to Texas from New Mexico, where he was a sales, marketing, and press associate for a contemporary art gallery based in Santa Fe and Newport Beach, Calif. Located at 1953 Montrose Blvd., the Art League of Houston is a nonprofit organization that is committed to promoting visual arts in Houston through education, exhibitions, outreach, and special programs. Over the last 50 years, it has showcased the works of 20,000 artists in its gallery and instructed more than 25,000 students in its school.

Dennis Cox, formerly of City Cuts on Montrose Blvd., has opened Emanon Hair Salon. Along with Cox’s 12 years of experience, he also brings his Houston clients a full line of hair-care products. Although Dennis specializes in men’s cuts and color, women and children also love the magic he performs. Emanon Hair Salon is located at 1122 W. Gray, just one block west of Montrose.
