DEEP
INSIDE HOLLYWOOD
By Romeo San Vicente
Jack
in the Litter Box
Will & Grace star Sean Hayes is spending
his summer vacation getting into a major catfight! Hayes,
who plays the flamboyant Jack on the hit NBC show, just
scored one of the leads in the upcoming Warner Brothers
combination live-action and animation flick, Cats
and Dogs. Hayes will provide the voice of Mr. Tinkles,
an evil cat in the film. The story follows an earnest
young pup (whose voice will be provided by Cider
House Rules star Tobey Maguire) who helps thwart
a fiendish feline plot to take over the world. The voices
of Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, and Green Mile
star Michael Clarke Duncan will also be showcased in
the movie, which the studio hopes to turn into a major
franchise.
Amadeus
Duets With Vachon
Lesbian producer Christine Vachon has partnered with
openly gay actor Tom Hulce (best known for his portrayal
of Mozart in 1984's Amadeus) to bring Michael Cunningham's
gay-themed novel Home at the End of the World
to the big screen. Home is a poignant tale about
two boyhood friends, Bobby (straight) and Jonathan (gay),
who get involved in a bizarre triangle with their female
roommate, Clare. Jonathan intends to father Clare's
child, but that plan gets tossed when Bobby and Clare
fall in love. They redefine the American family when
they join forces to raise "their" child in
NYC's East Village. No word yet on when Home
will hit theaters.
Another Kind of American Beauty
American Beauty producer Bruce Cohen recently
shared his love of drag with a group of chi-chi Los
Angeles queers. Asked by the Human Rights Campaign to
talk about how his professional and activist lives intersected,
Cohen spent the bulk of his 45-minute talk at the classic
eatery Spago talking about how and why he has strutted
before the Hollywood A-List (from Jack Nicholson to
Carrie Fisher) in women's clothing. The 38-year-old
Cohen, whose credits include The Flintstones
and To Wong Foo..., finished by displaying a
copy of the framed photo of him dressed as Marilyn Monroe
that he presented to his mentor Steven Spielberg the
day after he won the Oscar for Best Picture. The photo
is now on display in the bathroom used by Spielberg's
guests at Dreamworks Studios, Cohen said.
Sean Maher Hits The $treet
Twenty-something cutie Sean Maher, who was the star
of last fall's short-lived Ryan Caulfield, Year One,
has been recruited by the Fox Network again. This time
the brunette hunk will star in the re-vamped version
of The $treet, a new Wall Street drama created
by Melrose Place and Sex and the City
creator Darren Star.
Dawson's Hole?
The most interesting casting rumor going around has
Hole rocker-slash-actress-slash-occasional-bisexual
Courtney Love doing a hard sell to the producers of
Dawson's Creek to guest star next season as the
very hetero older love interest of James Van Der Beek.
Courtney playing Mrs. Robinson in Capeside? Romeo will
believe it when he sees it. In other casting
news, Tony-winning actress Audra McDonald has signed
on to play the nurse in HBO's production of the Pulitzer
Prize-winning play Wit opposite Emma Thompson.
Romeo San Vicente wouldn't mind a pussyfootin' around
with Sean Hayes. You can reach Romeo in care of
