The gay-friendly owners of Hollywood Frame Gallery, Kathleen and Ricky Connaughton, greeted guests at the April 24 April in Paris event at their store (2431 Bissonnet, 713/942-8885). During the evening, guests viewed photographs by New Orleans- and Paris-based photographer Robert Borne.

On April 25, JPMorgan Chase received the 2003–2004 Outstanding Volunteer Award from Bering Omega Community Services. Raul Diaz of Chase accepted the award at the event at Kilworth Manor.

In the early hours of June 27, following the Pride parade, actor Robert Gant will host the Queer as Folk Future Babylon Tour at South Beach. The event is the Houston stop of an 18-city U.S. tour, presented by Midori, which presents a simulation of what Babylon, the nightclub on the popular Showtime series, will look like in the year 2050. Gant is a cast member on the show. DJ Tracy Young from Miami, whose music has been featured on episodes of Queer as Folk, is the special guest. The night will feature dance performances, decor and design by Miami’s “Future Boys,” Rubio and Kidd Madonny, of RKM Design and Production. South Beach is located at 810 Pacific. Career and Recovery Resources, Inc., the nonprofit United Way agency that helps people identify and overcome barriers to employment, will honor Marc J. Shapiro, chairman of Chase Bank of Texas, for his community service at the eighth annual Barrier Breaker Award luncheon on June 29 at the Westin Oaks.
