• OUT ON THE VINE

Soon, oenophiles here will be able to sip the wines of Rainbow Ridge, the gay-owned California winery. Co-founders and life partners Tom Beatty and Dennis Costa introduced their first varietal, a rich red Alicante Bouschet, last December. They are now working with a distributor to bring their product to Texas.

In March, that debut wine received a bronze medal in the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle wine competition. Beatty and Costa will next release a chardonnay.

Rainbow Ridge’s out-and-proud ads feature soulful photos of male couples, and a portion of each sale benefits community charities, including AIDS Project Los Angeles. The winery has also signed on as a product sponsor of Boy Meets Boy, a Bravo reality show filming in Palm Springs.

Even before you can enjoy Rainbow Ridge wines here, you can order shirts and caps embroidered with the rainbow-hued grape cluster logo at www.rainbowridgewines.com.

• WOMEN AND WINE

Capineto, the venerable Italian winemaker, has received great response from its print ads that feature a pair of stunning women who are obviously more than roommates. The spot has appeared in the specialty magazines Saveur and The Wine Enthusiast and in Vanity Fair. Capineto’s Antonio Zaccheo Jr. recently barnstormed through Houston to promote his wines. While here, he toasted with OutSmart contributor Eric Dieckman at Vinoteka in the Heights, one of the local spots where Capineto is poured. Capineto wines are sold at Spec’s Liquors, HEB, and Whole Foods Market on Kirby.
