HIV Art Outreach Exhibition
June 6–30
Heritage Hall, the art gallery in the JPMorgan
Chase Building (707 Travis) will present a show
of linoleum-cut prints created by individuals
living with HIV/AIDS who participated in art classes
established in 1990 by Patrick Palmer. Free.
Songs of Our Voices
June 7, 10, 11, 8 p.m.; June 8, 3 p.m.
Didn’t get enough ABBA when Mamma Mia blew
through town? The Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston
will present hits by those Swedes with extrABBAganza.
The program at Resurrection Metropolitan Community
Church (2025 West 11th) will also include Robert
Seely’s Exile. $15 in advance, $20 at the

Mr., Ms., Miss Gay Pride
Saturday, June 7, 8 p.m.
The Royal Sovereign and Imperial Court of the
Single Star of Houston will present the annual
pageant and show at Chances (1100 Westheimer).

“In Our Own Write” Poetry Reading
Friday, June 13, 8 p.m.
Thomas Blanton will host a special Pride evening
of reading by local GLBT writers at the Houston
GLBT Community Center (3400 Montrose Blvd., Suite
207). Free, donations for the center encouraged.

Jocks in Dresses
Saturday, June 14, 7:30 p.m.
Dude looks like a lady, indeed. Montrose Softball
League athletes will work their skirts at Rich’s
Houston (2401 San Jacinto) in the league’s

Summer Sweat Fest
Friday, June 20, 7 p.m. registration
The Imperial Court of Houston-Space City Empire
will present its first anniversary drag/leather/Levi
run during the weekend. Highlights include the

variety/drag show and auction at EJ’s (2517
Ralph). Proceeds benefit AIDS Foundation Houston

Go Fish at Lesbian Film Night

For Pride month, the Houston GLBT Community Center

extremely popular 1994 comedy about a circle of
lesbian career women and their girlfriends. Free,

GoGirlsRocks! Houston Pride
Friday, June 27, 8 p.m.
Madalyn Sklar’s GoGirlsMusic.com will present
its second annual Pride concert at the Rhythm
Room (1815 Washington). Featured performers will
include Sarah Golden and Elizabeth White of Houston.

• FOR PROUD WALLS
David Lewis, OutSmart contributing photographer,
and graphic designer Dustie Hollan have created
the Pride posters for 2003. Kimberly Marler and
Hollan posed for the photos. The 18-by-24-inch
posters, printed in a limited edition, are $10
and available through www.pridehouston.org and
at M2M (3400 Montrose). A signed edition is available
for $50.
• HOUSTONIANS ATTEND NATIONAL CONVENTIONS
Seven local individuals will attend the June 2–6
Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf 18th Biennial Conference
in Orlando. The Florida-bound Houstonians are
Tobin Trahan, Doris Dover, Heather Dover, Tina
Koopman, Tracy Mason, Bruce Herman, and Brian

Sam Stewman, who serves on the national board
of BFLAG (Blind Friends of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
and Transgender People), planned, at press time,
to attend the July 5–12 American Council
of the Blind national convention in Pittsburgh.
Established in 1996, BFLAG is an affiliated special-interest
group of the council. Individuals interested in
