NOTES FROM ALL OVER

Thank you for your coverage for my upcoming show Lock Up Your Sons And Daughters in Houston [“Film Festival Opens May 29,”April 2003]. I can hardly wait! Aurora rocks, man!

Bill Taylor

Vancouver, British Columbia

Editor’s Note: Aurora Picture Show will screen Taylor’s satirical film on June 5 and 6 during the Houston Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Check out more movies in the film festival program guide, included in this issue.

Just in case you don’t remember, I am the person in Denver to whom you sent a copy of the April 2002 issue of your magazine [for the articles “O Pioneers!”]. Thank you so much. It has been an enormously helpful resource—plus that, I have simply enjoyed it!

I am a female-to-male transgender person and am going to be transitioning on the job, here in Denver. My company is under contract here, though, and is actually headquartered down there in Houston. It’s a small company, and relatively young. This week, I talked to my boss; she then spoke with our HR manager and another supervisor. Everyone is handling it very professionally and is supportive.

It’s completely new, though, to our HR manager. I therefore wanted to ask a small favor.

The articles featuring Sara Rook’s transition at Shell Oil were especially helpful, and with your permission I’d like to share them with the management of my company.

Thank you again. It sounds like Houston has a great community, and it buoyed my spirits to encounter that on the phone with you, across all the miles.

Frank Lyon

Denver, Colorado

Editor’s Note: Naturally, we encouraged Frank to share the articles with anyone who can facilitate his transition.

I recently came across your site while looking for more information on Matt Cavenaugh, the up-and-coming star of Urban Cowboy [“Swing & Twang,” February 2002]. Matt and I went to college together and I would be very interested in knowing how I could obtain the publication he was in. Thanks in advance

The article “What’s in the Bag?” in the April issue included incomplete information regarding carry-on luggage. The author, Kim Gustavsson, clarifies that a traveler may carry on one piece of luggage, restricted by most airlines to a maximum weight of 40 pounds. A traveler may also have a second carry-on item, such as a purse, backpack, or briefcase, of about 7 pounds (and not more than 10 pounds).
