• HALLOWED GROUND
On March 12, the Garden and Yard Society (GAYS)
will dedicate a verdant urban retreat cultivated
to remember friends lost to AIDS. Society member
R. Michael Lee and his partner, Chuck Gulick,
began work on the garden in 1985 on land behind
their house off South MacGregor Way. Several hardy
GAYS stalwarts gathered on a chilly February morning
in the Texas AIDS Memorial Garden: (front row,

The 936-stone, 136-carat Lachrymosa Diamond Mask
designed by jeweler Henry Dunay will sparkle at
the March 12 benefit for The Assistance Fund.
During the event at The Corinthian downtown, guests
can have their photo taken with the bejeweled
piece, with proceeds directly supporting the HIV
service organization’s medication program.
At the kick-off party last November at Neiman
Marcus Galleria, Assistance Fund board vice president
Barbara Seymour modeled the mask—originally
crafted by Dunay in 1991 for Elizabeth Taylor
to wear to an American Foundation for AIDS Research
gala.

• BIG TIME
Members of the Houston Big Men’s Club, including
(l-r) Chris Arasin, Dominic Barciagalupia, and
Claude Lovell, will welcome guys from across the
nation for the March 19-21 East Coast Conference
of the Affiliated Big Men’s Clubs. Based
at the Renaissance Houston in Greenway Plaza,
the weekend will include seminars, sightseeing
tours, and a Saturday-night show and dance. At
12:30 a.m. on March 21, conference participants
will chat on “After Hours” on KPFT-FM.
The Big Men’s Club holds a social on the
third Saturday night of every month at the Houston
GLBT Community Center.
