PAPER WORK

Origami honors the Chinese New Year of the Goat (or is it the Sheep?)

Even for those not reared with Chinese New Year celebrations, the holiday offers another welcome chance to start over. In honor of the Year of the Goat (or the Sheep, say some sources), we asked origami artist Kyle Fu to create a paper figure of the symbol for the 4700th Chinese year. Fu custom-makes origami figures ($5 each) as well as mobiles ($25-$65). Contact him at Notoriousart@yahoo.com.

On February 15, Fu will demonstrate origami for Lantern Festival at Forbidden Gardens, the Katy attraction of Chinese simulacra.

Throughout the month, Fu and other artists involved with his Notorious Artist Guild will present an exhibition, The Art Will Go On, at Mo Mong. On February 23, they will host a noon-5 p.m. reception. At Mo Mong, Fu will also display a life-size origami goat to welcome what Chinese astrology promises will be an artistic but unpredictable year.
