The Character of Cloth
Monday, September 28, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
In opera, a costume is not simply stitched, it is built. The intricate process of mocking up a costume, building it and then allowing the performers to “learn” it is truly an art form. From Sept. 28 – Nov. 20, 2015, costumes from the Houston Grand Opera will be on display at Total Plaza in Downtown Houston. The exhibition, titled The Character of the Cloth, is curated by Sally Reynolds and will feature 11 costumes from seven HGO operas that were conceived by award-winning designers, including Zandra Rhodes, Christopher Oram, Joan Guillen, Anita Yavich, Murell Horton, Zack Brown and Jessica Jahn. The Character of Cloth is presented by Arts Brookfield, which revitalizes workplaces through the presentation of free cultural experiences in Brookfield’s premier buildings.
