Thursday, February 8, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

The music will transport you back in time when Pop Rock & Doo Wopp Live takes the stage at the Stafford Centre on February 8. The audience will hear hit songs from Jay and the Americans, Charlie Thomas’ Drifters and Dennis Tufano, the original lead singer of The Buckinghams.

“This Pop Rock & Doo Wopp Show sizes up to be the most amazing line-up we’ve had so far,” states Joseph Mirrione of Praia Entertainment, the producer of the show. “These are the original artists who made the records, so the audience is in for a great night of music and memories.
The music of these artists remain staples of pop, rock and doo wopp. The audience will hear the soundtrack of their youth from the 60’s with hit songs like “This Magic Moment” from Jay and the Americans, “Under the Boardwalk” by Charlie Thomas’ Drifters and “Kind of a Drag” performed by Dennis Tufano, original lead singer of The Buckinghams.

Jay and the Americans’ career spanned over a decade and included opening for the Beatles’ first American concert in 1964 as well as the Rolling Stones’ first American appearance in the same year. One of their last albums, “Sands of Time,” produced the single “This Magic Moment” which became their largest selling hit. Their chart-topping music includes “Only in America,” a song that debuted in 1963 and was originally meant for The Drifters, “Come a Little Bit Closer” from 1964 which hit #3 on Billboard’s Hot Top 100 and “Cara Mia” that reached #4 in 1965. The group includes original members Sandy Deane, Howie Kane and Marty Sanders fronted by Jay Reincke.

The Drifters have sold over 200 million albums and Charlie Thomas is the only original Drifter alive today. Charlie Thomas’ Drifters will play fan favorites such as “On Broadway,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Up on the Roof” and “There Goes My Baby.” Thomas is an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame and recipient of the R&B Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Buckinghams were one of the most popular American artists of their time and were named “the most listened-to band in America” by Billboard Magazine in 1967. Dennis Tufano, will deliver The Buckinghams’ hits including the #1 Hit “Kind of a Drag,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Don’t You Care” and “Susan” during his high-energy performance.
