Open Auditions for the musical HAIR

Sunday, December 3, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - Monday, December 4, 2017 @ 7:00 pm

ETC CASTING FOR HAIR – THE ORIGINAL ROCK MUSICAL

Island ETC is pleased to announce open auditions for all roles in their upcoming production of the American Tribal Rock Musical – HAIR. Auditions will be held at ETC, 2317 Mechanic in Galveston on Sunday and Monday, December 3rd and 4th. Auditions will begin at 7:00pm on both evenings. (Possible invited call-backs will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00pm.)

Please prepare an up-tempo pop or rock selection from the 60’s/70’s or a rock musical theatre piece. Bring sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. No recorded music or a-cappella singing. Bring comfortable clothing for a dance/movement audition. There will also be a cold reading portion of the audition.

HAIR is an extremely high-energy ensemble production. This production will contain partial nudity, but nudity is not required of all cast members. However, all cast members need to be comfortable with their own bodies and working extremely closely with others. HAIR confronts issues with race, freedom of speech, drug use and the Vietnam military action.

HAIR will begin rehearsals on January 21, 2018. Rehearsals are held Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 to 10:00pm. Performances are March 9 – April 7, 2018. (16 total performances) Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm. There will be two 2:30 Sunday matinees on March 18th and March 25th. All cast members will receive a production stipend at the end of the run.

HAIR tells the story of a group of Vietnam-era Americans exuberantly creating their own rite of passage through the confusion and turmoil happening in the world around them. The musical popularized and polarized the spirit of the 60’s and has struck a resonant chord with audiences of all ages for over fifty years. The show features unforgettable songs including ‘Aquarius,’ ‘Easy To Be Hard,’ ‘Hair,’ and ‘Let The Sun Shine In.’ HAIR illustrates a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world.

“HAIR is an unforgettable experience for all cast members,” states director, Kim Mytelka. “HAIR was the first musical produced by ETC, so it seemed only appropriate to include it as part of our 15th season. The score is phenomenal and the story and style are complicated, challenging, and fun.”
