Noah Simblist on Mona Hatoum

Noah Simblist presents “Walking the Length of a Knife’s Edge: Mona Hatoum’s Contradictions”

Mona Hatoum’s work operates in the borderlands between aesthetic categories, identities, and nation states. This lecture will analyze a series of her works to unpack the relationship between forms of social, material, and imagistic displacement. Noah Simblist is Chair of Painting and Printmaking and Associate Professor of Art at Virginia Commonwealth University. He works as a curator, writer, and artist and has contributed to Art Journal, Modern Painters, Art in America, Art Papers, Terremoto, Art Lies, Art Pulse, Art21, and other publications.

This public program is free and open to everyone.

“Mona Hatoum: Terra Infirma” is on view at the Menil through February 25, 2018. Admission is free, always.
