A Proust Sonata, conceived and directed by Sarah Rothenberg

A co-presentation by FIAF French Institute Alliance Francaise and Da Camera

Marcel Proust’s revelatory novel In Search of Lost Time comes to life in 7 musical tableaux scored for tenor, two actors, violin, string quartet and piano. Equal parts concert and theater, A Proust Sonata transforms music, painting and literature into multimedia performance. Pianist and director Sarah Rothenberg, joined by a Tony Award-winning design team and a cast that includes actors Henry Stram and Nancy Hume, interweaves sound collage, image and music to evoke the author’s themes of memory, lost childhood, fashionable Parisian salons, and the final reclusive years when he withdrew from society to complete his magnum opus. Music of Fauré, Schumann, Debussy, Chopin, Ravel, Beethoven, Reynaldo Hahn.
