Music, dance and contemplation at Rothko Chapel as part of MenilFest 2017

Saturday, May 6, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The Rothko Chapel will be hosting contemplative musical events as part of MenilFest 2017.

Beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 with “Anecdote of the Spirit,” a performance by soprano and experimental vocal composer Misha Penton and double bassist and composer Thomas Helton.

During the performance, audience members are invited to wander in and out of the Chapel in contemplation and introspection.

Then, at 5 p.m., the evening continues with dance as Core Performance Company will perform “walk,” a dance work that celebrates the sacred space of a labyrinth. The site-specific piece will be performed in a temporary labyrinth setup in the Chapel’s plaza, in front of Barnett Newman’s iconic sculpture Broken Obelisk.
