Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA) presents FELA! as its Spring 2019 All-School Musical production. FELA! tells the story of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, whose soulful Afrobeat – a blend of jazz, funk, and African rhythm and harmonies – rhythms ignited a generation.

Motivated by his mother, a civil rights champion, Fela Kuti defied a corrupt and oppressive military government and devoted his life and music to the struggle for freedom and human dignity. FELA! is a spectacularly inspiring and triumphant tale of courage, passion and love.

Kinder HSPVA is the first high school in the nation to present FELA!, the most critically-acclaimed musical of the 2010 Broadway season. Alumnus Justin Prescott (Dance ’06) was a member of the original Broadway company, and he returns to Kinder HSPVA to work with the cast. FELA! marks the inaugural production in Kinder HSPVA’s new downtown campus, which opened in January 2019.
