Houston Melharmony

HOUSTON MELHARMONY features world premieres of new music inspired by Indian ragas by the “Mozart of Indian music” (Wisconsin State Journal), acclaimed slide instrumentalist and composer Chitravina Ravikiran. The new works are based on Ravikiran’s system of Melharmony, a ground-breaking approach in world music that creates fusion between harmony-centric systems (Western classical/jazz) and melody-centric systems (Indian classical). Also explored is the profound influence of Indian music on American Minimalist composers Philip Glass and Terry Riley..
