Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. at the Rothko Chapel

The Rothko Chapel will be honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and his legacy, with a major event slated for 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.on Sunday, Jan. 15, including a ceremony to welcome the return to the Chapel of the “Broken Obelisk,” the famous Barnett Newman sculpture, appearances by public officials, including Congresswoman Shelia Jackson, and “the Fierce Urgency of Now,” a talk by award-winning writer Leonard Pitts, Jr.
The event schedule is:
5 p.m. — Reception on the Plaza
5:30 p.m. — Ceremony welcoming the return of Barnett Newman’s Broken Obelisk
6 p.m. — Reception continues
7 p.m. — The Fierce Urgency of Now, lecture by Leonard Pitts, Jr.
