EADO PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS AN ALTERNATIVE HOLIDAY OFFERING: A MODERN “ONCE UPON A TIME” WITH BROOKLYN THE MUSICAL

Opening December 8, EaDo Playhouse presents BROOKLYN THE MUSICAL, an urban play-within-a-play with a soul-stirring pop-rock, R&B and gospel inspired score. Utilizing garbage to create nearly every prop, set and costume, this magical production must be seen to be believed. EaDo Playhouse’s limited engagement of BROOKLYN runs for only six performances, December 8 through 17.

The Playhouse transports audiences to a snow-banked street corner in Brooklyn, where a group of homeless artists have gathered together to tell their “sidewalk fairy tale.” Our storytellers, City Weeds, have “up-cycled” cardboard boxes, newspapers, coat hangers and old bedsheets to create the world of their humble play. The Streetsinger peers through the looming tenement roofs and announces “every star out in Heaven is shining down on Brooklyn tonight,” a sign that this evening’s performance is to be nothing short of spectacular. After the City Weeds deliver a musical plea asking passersby to “give only what they can,” their story begins. Brooklyn, an orphaned Parisian girl with unimaginable musical gifts, sets off to America in search of her long-lost father. She soon discovers that she may not be prepared for what she will find in the land of the free and home of the brave.

BROOKLYN gives Houston audiences an alternative to traditional holiday programming with a cast of Playhouse favorites, led by Victoria Riley as Brooklyn, Jayson Kolbicz as The Streetsinger, and Raven Troup as Paradice. A live onstage band backs the ensemble of remarkable local talent which also includes Colton Berry, Sydney Blankenship, Michael Castillo, and Julia Noble. The cast’s unprecedented vocal performances make BROOKLYN a must-see this holiday season.

EaDo Playhouse maintains a deliberately intimate venue, to connect Houston theatre-goers to art in a fearless, face-to-face manner.
