Bonus Event: Pottery Painting Workshop for Kids from 6-8pm
Who doesn’t like playing in the mud? Pottery and ceramic artist Richard Eastman will present his take on playing in the mud at ArtWalk at The Grand. Grand staff members will also present a Pottery Painting Workshop for kids from 6-8pm during ArtWalk. Kids (of all ages) can paint a plate that will be used at an upcoming fundraising event!
Richard Eastman is an interior designer, landscape designer, architectural space planner, published poet, artist and potter. He says, “As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with color. And the richer the color, the greater it attracts me. As a small child, I spent a great deal of time with my grandmother who was a natural born artist. She spent hours with me teaching me the joy of creating everything from painting to sculpting, not mention planting and maintaining a beautiful flower garden to attract a diverse group of birds and butterflies. That relationship and the love of art she inspired motivated me to become an artist. Creating beauty in the world is my passion; it is the most important thing in my life. And though I have received several awards for my artwork, the greatest honor I can receive is when it is cherished by those who own one of my pieces of work.
The Pottery Painting Workshop at ArtWalk at The Grand is presented in partnership with Clay Cup Studios in Galveston; and as part of an ongoing collaborative fundraising project with Galveston Restaurant Group and Saltwater Grill in Galveston. Clay Cup Studios directs children in painting dessert plates that are glazed, fired and used at Saltwater Grill restaurant. Dessert at the restaurant is served on these plates, and the plates may be purchased with the dessert. Plates painted at the ArtWalk workshop will be available at Saltwater Grill restaurant after firing. Proceeds from sales of the dessert plates benefit children’s programs at The Grand 1894 Opera House – sweetness shared!
