Join us on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 6:30 pm EST for a ZOOM Conversation with Producers John Catania and Charles Ignacio.
Presented in conversation with SNMA Executive Director Hunter O’Hanian, John Catania and Charles Ignacio will discuss their many years producing for In the Life, the LGBTQ public affairs series that aired on PBS stations for two decades from 1992 to 2012.

The event is free, open to the public and conducted via ZOOM.

About In the Life
In the Life was the first and longest-running television series to present the real lives of LGBTQ people. The program brought informative discussion of queer issues and culture into America’s living rooms like no program ever did before or has done since. Included in this event will be footage from the first exciting minutes from June of 1992 when In the Life signed on and made history, and also clips from major LGBTQ events and memorable moments. Also included are scenes from a 2012 recap of 20 years of reporting in the final episode of In the Life.

About John Catania and Charles Ignacio

Charles Ignacio oversaw production of the Emmy-nominated In the Life during its first decade on the air. After leaving In the Life, Charles served as deputy director for Freedom to Marry, the campaign that helped win marriage equality in the U.S. In 2002 Charles was named one of Out magazine’s Out 100.
For In the Life John Catania was a writer, editor, producer and also communications director. For his producing work, John received the Excellence in Journalism Award from the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, and in 2000 was named one of the “101 Movers and Shakers” in Entertainment Weekly’s Gay Hollywood 2000 millennium issue.
Charles and John together produced the documentaries The Boys of Manchester: On the Set of Queer as Folk and The Lady in Question is Charles Busch that aired on Sundance Channel. They have presented numerous talks around the world on LGBTQ rights, most recently across Southeast Asia at the invitation of universities and the U.S. Department of State’s consulates and embassies.
Together now 27 years, Charles and John were legally married on July 24, 2011—the first day marriage licenses were issued to same-sex couples in the State of New York.
