Keeping the focus on equality one state at a time, Taryn Miller-Stevens and Peter Stolarski have started a Kickstarter campaign for BLgTUSA. BLgTUSA takes the classic BLT sandwich and mixes it up a little. Partnering with local chefs from 57 cities, the truck will provide a unique version of the BLgT at each stop. The proceeds from the sandwiches will be given to local LGBT centers for each city. The tour begins in Provincetown, Massachusetts, on May 23, 2015, and ends in Honolulu, Hawaii, on September 22. Texas stops will be in Austin on September 12 and here in Houston on September 19.

The BLgT Truck hopes to bring people together through food. Miller-Stevens and Stolarski told Huffington Post that “food is universal—young, old, black, brown, white, rainbow, LGBT, or straight—everyone needs to eat!” Wanting to harness that unifying aspect of food, the BLgT Truck group will try to get people together on other problems that are faced by LGBT people besides marriage equality. They point to statistics that say while 36 states and the District of Colombia currently enjoy marriage equality, there are still 29 states where you can be fired from your job just for being LGBT, and 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. While we may be making historic advancements in marriage equality, the conversation about equality is nowhere close to being done. The BLgT Tour will hopefully get groups of people in each city talking about the problems faced by LGBT people nationally and beyond.

With over 100 backers pledging over $17,000, the Kickstarter looks poised to make their goal of $150,000 before February 16. This money along with corporate sponsors will be used to try and mobilize one million people volunteering, donating to BLgT or local centers, and just talking about all the issues that we are currently facing as a community.
