Gov. Cuomo endorses NY state senator

NEW YORK (AP)

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has endorsed a fellow Democrat from Queens who’s battling for re-election. A Siena College poll Monday showed state Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. in a dead-heat with Republican City Councilman Eric A. Ulrich.

The New York Times says that at Cuomo’s urging, Addabbo was one of three Democratic senators who changed their positions last year to vote in favor of same-sex marriage.

Gay marriage has already been an issue this election cycle.

Of four Republicans who also voted in favor when New York became the sixth and largest state to approve gay marriage, two won primaries last month, one lost and one chose to retire.
