Man Sentenced for Stabbing Ex-Boyfriend’s Brother

PATERSON, N.J. – Prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man who fled the state last year after admitting that he tried to kill his ex-boyfriend’s brother has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison.

Paul Kramer of Mahwah, who had pleaded guilty to attempted murder, was awaiting sentencing when he cut off a monitoring bracelet on his ankle and fled in his mother’s car. He remained a fugitive for two months until he was captured at a Missouri bus station.

Kramer’s lawyer says his client “snapped” when his ex-boyfriend called Kramer’s mother and told her he was gay. The two men were going through an acrimonious split.

Later that day, Kramer repeatedly slashed and stabbed the victim until his knife broke. He has since recovered, but says the attack left him traumatized.
