Galveston Island First Annual Restaurant Week— January 15–21, 2012

by Karen Derr

Galveston joins the ranks of other destination cities like New York City, Boston, and Seattle with its own restaurant week—the first-ever Galveston.com & Company Galveston Restaurant Week, January 15–21, 2012. The popular concept is a fun way to tempt visitors to plan a getaway at a time when the tourist crowds have usually thinned out. The list of restaurants participating in Galveston Restaurant Week (complete with menus) is at GalvestonRestaurantWeek.com. Galveston Restaurant maps and details are also fully-interactive on the Galveston.com calendar of events.

With Dickens on the Strand long over and Mardi Gras weeks away, January is a great month to go to Galveston to focus on Gulf-coast cuisine and Galveston’s great restaurants. Restaurant Week prix-fixe lunch and/or dinner menus will be offered at prices between $10 and $45, depending on the restaurant.

Restaurant Week Photo Contest
To add to the fun and adventure of this event, diners could win a cruise for two simply by sharing their favorite restaurant photos online in the first-ever Galveston.com Facebook Photo Contest. Galveston.com is looking for photos that best capture the legendary cuisine of the island’s inaugural restaurant week. Diners are invited to snap a shot of their friends and family enjoying one of the special menu items at any of the 30 participating restaurants. After you snap your photo highlighting a Restaurant Week menu item, upload the photo to the Facebook fan page at facebook.com/GalvestonRestaurants/.

All photo entries will be reviewed by fan voters. Restrictions apply, and eligibility is limited. The entry period is January 15, 2012 at 10 a.m. through January 21, 2112 at 10 p.m. Voting will take place January 22–28, and winners will be announced on February 1. For more details, please read the official contest rules at GalvestonRestaurantWeek.com.

Having fun with Galveston Island Restaurant Week couldn’t be easier. There are no passes to buy, no coupons to carry, and no cards to punch—only a quick call to the restaurant of your choice to make reservations. Reservations are strongly recommended. “We invite you to experience cuisine that will amplify your palate and highlight the fun of dining on Galveston Island. Quite simply, this new culinary tradition promises to “celebrate delicious” like no other event of the year,” promises the event sponsor, Galveston.com.
