No Verdict Yet in CA Gay Teen Murder Trial

LOS ANGELES – Jurors have not reached a verdict in the trial of a California teen accused of murdering a gay classmate at school three years ago.

The Ventura County Star says the panel met early Monday and recessed for the day because one of the jurors had to attend class. The jury began its discussions Friday to determine if Brandon McInerney is guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of 15-year-old Larry King at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard.

If convicted, the now 17-year-old McInerney faces more than 50 years in prison. Jurors also can consider a conviction of voluntary manslaughter, which carries a maximum 21-year term.

The trial was moved from Ventura County to Los Angeles because of pre-trial publicity.
