Gay Marriage Backlash in Iowa an Issue for Judges

IOWA CITY, Iowa  – Iowa’s chief justice says he’s concerned that further efforts to oust his colleagues will jeopardize the court system.

Three judges on the Iowa Supreme Court lost retention votes in November over a 2009 ruling that legalized gay marriage in Iowa.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports Chief Justice Mark Cady spoke Friday in Iowa City. He says that if the other four judges involved in the unanimous decision lose their seats, then the court system will become politicized because judges will have to raise money and keep their supporters happy.
