ACTION ALERT: SB 1821—HIV Medication Program

From the THMP Advisory Committee: Ten minutes of your time will have a lifetime of impact!

On Tuesday, May 10 at 9AM, the Texas Senate Health and Human Services Committee will consider SB 1821, which would permanently establish the Texas HIV Medication Program Advisory Committee in statute, and ensure that it does not sunset and dissolve due to a clerical oversight.

THMP covers the exorbitant costs for upwards of 50 medications that could cost a single person $16,000-$24,000 a year out-of-pocket.

The THMP Advisory Committee is comprised of 11 community experts, including three physicians, a pediatrician, a hospital administrator, a pharmacist, a social worker, and four consumers.  A comprehensive committee that includes both service providers and consumers insures that the best interest of HIV positive Texans is always being taken into consideration.  Each member is active in the HIV/AIDS community, and has an extensive yet unique knowledge and perspective of what issues may be present at any given time.

It is imperative that you call the following Senators TODAY and ask them to support SB 1821:

Senator Jane Nelson:  (512) 463-0112
Senator Bob Deuell:  (512) 463-0102
