Galveston Offers New Support Group for GLBTQ Community

Galveston GLBTQ persons who are searching for community support have a new resource to turn to: the GLBTQ Peer Support Group. Meetings are set for the first and third Wednesdays of the month, with the first meeting scheduled Nov. 17, 7 p.m.

“It is a place for the GLBTQ community to come and support each other and talk about those difficult issues with like-minded [people],” group organizer Lesley Gary said, adding that meetings are confidential and open to all.

“In this new adventure, we hope to help a part of the community that has not had a place to go before,” Gary said. “This is a way to help people—femme or butch or whatever—who have nowhere to turn, to come and find like-minded people. It is a place for that trans person to have a safe place and a shoulder to lean on. It is a place of acceptance and a group that is there to help build the community stronger.”
