8: The Mormon Proposition

On Friday, June 18, the thought-provoking film 8: The Mormon Proposition is being released in select theaters, including the Angelika Film Center in Houston and Dallas, and available simultaneously through “Movies On Demand” in millions of homes nationwide. The film exposes the significant involvement of the Mormon Church in the California Proposition 8 battle against gay marriage and their decades-long campaign against gay rights.

The release of this informative film is very timely. The closing arguments in the US 9th District Court challenge to Proposition 8, Perry v. Schwarzenegger, are set for June 16, 2010. Perry v. Schwarzenegger is widely regarded as a landmark case that will reach the U.S. Supreme Court.  Furthermore, on June 9 the California Fair Practices Commission found the Mormon Church guilty of 13 counts of campaign finance violations related to Prop 8.
