HRC HOUSTON CELEBRATES WITH FORMAL DINNER

Human Rights Campaign Houston’s 13th annual gala, Project Equality, is set for May 22 at Hilton Americas-Houston, 1600 Lamar St.

Each year, organizers for the formal dinner bestow awards on supporters of the group’s mission to achieve equality for LGBT individuals. United States Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee receives the group’s Political award and Tabatha Coffey from Bravo TV’s Shear Genius and Tabatha’s Salon Takeover receives the HRC National Visibility award. Former Houston mayor and current Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate, Bill White, is scheduled to speak at the event, which also features keynote speaker, actor Meredith Baxter. Grammy award-winning vocalist Crystal Waters and comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer provide entertainment. Tickets start at $175. hrchouston.org.

Meredith Baxter is an acclaimed television, film, and stage actress, producer, and advocate for women’s rights and breast cancer research. Baxter recently came out as a lesbian on national television during an interview with Matt Lauer on The Today Show and in an interview in People magazine. She also just signed a deal with Broadway Books to write a candid and revealing memoir of her eventful personal and professional life.
