Equality Forum celebrates GLBT History Month

Taking a cue from Black History Month, Equality Forum seeks to increase the awareness of LGBT history to a wider audience. The immensely popular website features an even higher polish and deeper content this year, with videos, images, bios, and bibliographies of LGBT icons. One icon is presented daily, providing extensive access to a wealth of information on the featured icon, with the preceding icon’s information available throughout the month.

In an effort to make LGBT education easier for schools, the site also features teaching resources and an “ideas link” that offers creative ways to celebrate LGBT progress. Gay student associations can also compete in the GLBT History Exhibit Contest.

This year’s icons include designer Yves St. Laurent, Tony-winning actress Cherry Jones, artist Robert Rauschenberg, author and activist Zora Neale Hurston, and filmmaker Gus Van Sant, to name but a few. OutSmart magazine is a proud co-sponsor of the project. For more information, visit glbthistorymonth.com, or link to the site via the magazine website (COMING SOON). —S.F.
